When it comes to food, perfect means fresh, locally grown, organic, non-GMO, pesticide free, pasture-raised and not in a box. However, in the real world, we are busy, often in a rush and so many of us need products that can be turned into a meal or snack pretty quickly. Here are products that aren’t perfect but are better than the norm. You can find some of these products in Health Stores, at Costco, and online on stores like naturamarket.ca, well.ca, even Costco online and Amazon.
Quinoa, Rice & Millet: When it comes to grain, pre-soaking for several hours is best. If you know you’ll be eating quinoa or rice for supper, place 1 cup of the grain in a bowl, cover with water and let sit all day. When you’re ready to cook your grain, just drain the water and cook as you normally would.

Gluten-Free Pasta: Bio Italia Red Lentil Pasta, Jovial Rice Pasta & Palmini (Palm hearts)

Crackers

Bone Broth & Gelatin: 2 tablespoons of bone broth = 15g of protein. For those of you who don’t like eating breakfast, this is a great way to start the day.

Fish & Seafood: You’re looking for wild-caught first, organic second. Always avoid Farmed/Atlantic Salmon and Tilapia.

Tuna and Sardines: For canned, look for packed in water or olive oil. They also sell fresh frozen sardines at fish mongers. You can ask them to clean them up for you. They will remove the bones, skin, tails and heads.

Meat Sticks: there are a variety of meat sticks including fish, beef, bison, duck, lamb, etc. Always look for some with the least ingredients.
